2010-07-04 13:00
Farrah Francis selects the top five talk shows to watch with the return of The Graham Norton Show.
1
The Ellen DeGeneres Show
Series Channel
Weeknights 6.30pm
It seems Ellen is fast becoming the next queen of talk if ratings are anything to go by. Watching her show is like watching the circus come to town. There are animals, games, prizes, dancing, acrobatics and crazy audience members. Then, of course, there are those interesting and unique guests. Step aside Oprah!
2
The Graham Norton Show
BBC Entertainment
Weeknights 10.25pm
There’s much to laugh about on late-night talk shows these days and it’s all thanks to Graham Norton. His guests are always unique and on par with trends. Viewers would not expect rappers like Grammy Award-winner 50Cent to appear on a British show with a nerdy host. But that’s why we love it!
3
The Tyra Banks Show
SABC3
Weekdays 12pm
Even after an endorsement from the queen of talk herself, Oprah, Tyra Banks has carved her own path in the talk show world. Banks established herself as day-time talk show host. Her topics are always relevant and appeal to teens, housewives, grannies and guys who enjoy her for eye-candy.
4
The Oprah Winfrey Show
SABC
Weekdays 5.35pm
Heading up to the 25th and final season of the show, the big O is ensuring she does everything she can to leave a lasting impression on her loyal audience. Who will ever forget her special visit to the White House and heart-to-heart talk with guests like Susan Boyle? And after making Skype look so cool, Oprah will certainly not be forgotten.
5
Motswako
SABC2
Monday 9.30pm
Always relevant and interesting, Penny Lebyane is doing a good job of keeping one of the most popular shows on local TV going. The show focuses on current issues pertaining to the general public which, is always a winner with any talk show. She adds an element of surprise too, like when she interviewed the soccer escorts. So cute!
