Nzimande’s R1m car saved taxpayers money

THE SACP condemns attempts by the Democratic Alliance to play ministers off against each other despite the clarification from government on the purchasing of cars.

The Ministerial Handbook which includes policy guidelines on ministerial cars and with which Dr Blade Nzimande has strictly complied, needs to be looked at in context.

There is nothing wrong with Nzimande’s purchase of a R1.1-million car.

It is ridiculous that people are calling for cars that were bought for more than R1?million to be returned and exchanged for cheaper alternatives.

Nzimande bought only one car and agreed to use a car that was used by the previous minister of education. But this is not mentioned by his detractors.

They rather question the type of organisation he is leading, in a bid to cause dissent within the SACP.

What we forget is that the car belongs to government and not to him.

Let me be the first person to congratulate Nzimande for buying only one car and therefore saving costs.

The risk assessment conducted by the SA Police Service before his appointment as minister acknowledged the need to strengthen and increase his security.

The SAPS advised that he acquire a car that was able to meet his security profile and respond to the needs of his diary.
