Reward the real supermen

I read in your paper with mixed emotions, if not disturbed conscience and conviction, about how much university bosses earn.
These are men of great learning and they add value to our institutions, but are they really supermen?
Education is definitely important, but is it fair that while these university bosses rake in millions, other professionals such as nurses, teachers and paramedics have to cross oceans to make ends meet?
Money is important, but if we are sending the message to young people that the only reason to become educated is so that you can make loads of money, then our developing world is in trouble.
What happened to the message of using your education to make the world a better place?
That is why others who resort to crime say they don’t need an education because they can make more money from criminal activities.
Other overpaid culprits include the bosses of parastatals.
It is “criminal” that these men and women receive such amounts. I even hear they have people who carry their bags for them. No wonder the former boss of Eskom had the audacity to demand a R89?million settlement when he was relieved of his duties.
What about the mess caused by Dali Mpofu (after impeccable work by Peter Matlare) at the SABC? And for that, he gets a “diamond handshake” not even a golden one.
That is why these people are not able to empathise with others.
They are made out to be supermen when they most certainly are not.
