Zille not in touch with reality

LEADER of the official opposition Democratic Alliance Helen Zille’s tendency to humiliate anyone who dares talk about racism in Western Cape is symptomatic of a leader completely removed from reality.

Responding to a report suggesting that Cape Town was a racist city (City Press, November 1), Premier Zille fired wildly in the direction of newspapers, researchers and political organisations but failed to deal with the substantive issues raised in the report: that the city was perceived as hostile to black people.

Instead of using the study as a weapon to fight racism, she chose to shoot the messenger.

The Western Cape premier, who cast herself as a progressive politician leading to the April national polls, suddenly questioned scientific methods used in research studies. It is strange that Zille, whose rise to the highest office in that province is largely attributed to her unbridled use of the race card, suddenly believes that race is no longer an issue in that divided province.

Surely she should have realised that her decision to pack her cabinet with white males did not only fly against efforts to undo past injustices, but gave private companies, particularly those led by “anti-change” managers, the license to vigorously entrench racism.

It is disturbing that Zille, who has never missed an opportunity to criticise the ANC-led government, used every excuse in the book to avoid speaking out against racism. In fact, one finds it equally puzzling that the DA leader, who on numerous occasions relied on researchers’ findings to call for criminal investigations against certain individuals, suddenly shows scant regard for research methodologies.

I say it is high time that she begin to concede that her party’s election campaign that sought to exploit Western Cape’s racial disharmony created a notion of invisibility in the mind of those bent on perpetuating the scourge of racism.

It is indeed regrettable that this country of ours has leaders like her.

She is a worse racist. She never commented on Caster Semenya, Reitz 4, the farmers who abuse their workers, farmers who kill their workers and many other events where black people are abused by whites. I question the mentality of black people who keep voting for her party.

Tshepo, take off your dark glasses and start seeing the light please!

To see Zille's true colors, you just have to go to her offices and see who is around her. So much for 'equal opportunity society' that they talk about.

Let me start by congratulating Minister Zille for her strict and tactical administration. It is without doubt that Zille is quite the stingy woman but, it works for our country... Honestly we need her.But it's unfortunate to understand that she is truly putting a blind eye on racism, which was the cause of the revolution in the past years. I know that she knows. We know that she knows that there is a great challenge of racism in her province, but this is the only part of politics Zille is scared to touch. wen politicians drag their feet to handle other problems, they are number one to criticize Jacob Zuma and Julius Malema for speaking out on these issues. That is how I that know she is afraid of her sponsors.Zille, like most opposition party leaders to the ANC rely on investors, whom are mostly apartheid and racism supporters. It is difficult for them to handle such cases, on the other hand, it is the very reason we need the Malemas in our country to tell her when she is too soft on racists. It is high time for such people to understand that we have no room for such actions. Pity to the hungry black and coloured communities who think they are well standing when used by capitalists to keep the economy out of their communities, but still they believe Zille serves their interests. Again, we need the likes of Zille in politics to balance the equation. If Zille never did what we saw in that province, the ANC would never have noticed that they are taking a nose dive in strategy because their people are suffering.

Please define racist for me. I looked it up in a dictionary, but it seems to have a different meaning in South Africa. It also appears to have a different meaning for whites and blacks. I have always been against racism and have fought against it for many years and have the scars to show for it, but I am no longer sure what qualifies for racism and I might be one myself now?

Thanks Joseph....I did not fight myself..am still not fighting, but want the definition as well!!!
