Audit the ANC as well

THE fact of the matter is that, Julius Malema is not the first ANC office bearer to amass millions or billions of rands from state tenders.

A lot more people have benefitted. You will find that, even the unionists and communists who plead poverty have benefitted from state contracts through their wives, children, cousins and friends.

It’s not only national leaders that loot the government; it goes down to provinces, regions and wards.

Also, it does not take a genius to work out that, Malema is indeed benefitting from state tenders, and at times may be influencing the awarding of such tenders.

So, he must stop blaming the media and accept that, indeed he is benefitting from tenders and explain himself on that.

It is also clear that Malema’s asset leak is linked to the ANC’s leadership battle for 2012. As the public, we must be careful not to be used by dubious characters within the alliance.

Of course, if Malema is not paying taxes or has obtained tenders illegally he must most definitely be taken to task.

However, we must not stop there, the ANC itself as an organisation must be audited, and its investment wings must be unmasked. We need to know if the ANC ever muscles itself into getting state tenders through its investment wings.

In fact we must do a full audit of the ANC, ANCYL, Cosatu and SACP and establish how they get the money to run their affairs.

That is where the rot begins.

After we finish auditing these entities, we must then audit all of their national executive members and their closest families and friends. Some of them have become too clever, so we must unmask them.

When, President Jacob Zuma was let off the hook with allegations fraud and corruption, I generally expected his government would be a looting machinery.

Therefore I think focusing on Malema will distract us from the source of the problem. Malema is a symptom of an old culture of looting and we must target the root of that culture.

The release of people such as Shabir Shaik from prison is an acceptance by the president that, more looting is still to come.

The stage is set. Malema and his kind are merely performers.

I wonder why there is no fanfare about the wealth of Cyril Ramaphosa, Tokyo Sexwale and many other politicians who hold high positions in the ANC.

Have they not also benefitted from the state because of their influence in the ANC?

One wonders if destroying Malema will help both Zwelinzima Vavi and Blade Nzimande on their project to capture the soul of ANC in 2012.

All I can say to South Africans is: vote out the LOOTERS and vote in the COPERS.

I agree. I have often wondered why people do not question the wealth of certain business people. It is obvious that they have received some benefit due to thier relationship with the ruling party.

It seems that Africa cannot survive without corruption! And democracy for Africa seems to mean "I am free to steal, murder, rape, corrupt and do what I like - free of any responsibility!". What is today really better than the pre-1994 era for our people? Better health services? Better, cleaner water? Better roads? Better housing? Less crime? Less murders (18000 per annum!)? Less corruption? Better morality? I hear more and more Africans say the days of "Apartheid' (except for the pass laws and inequality in the work-place), were better times! Something to think about ...
Die olifant 2/24/2010 1:07:17 PM
It seems the ANC that we voted is not the ANC that we think we know, even the president acknowledges all the deeds that his comrades are doing. Someone needs to ask him/herself that does the majority of our country understands their voting rights as well as its importance, thugs are even better as compared to the current rulling party because they are looting over nights what about this party that we think we know and that is worth dieying for is doing what ever they they want @ the time they want and nobody says anything even if we say anything nothing you can do and succeed, we need to create second thought about our leadership especially this new cabinet.
Masantase 2/24/2010 8:50:26 PM
All of what is happening is a prediction by Mrs. Mbeki. I remember reading about her when her son Thabo was recalled. Now I believe that woman, and it seem the worst is yet to come. Mbeki's administration was far much better than what we have today. My hope is that some great ANC member will stand against all this corruption and misrule. If you truly love the movement, there is no way that you can be quiet when things are falling apart. Speak out or forever close your mouth. This is too much for some clear-headed men and women to sit and watch their movement going down. Remember, we're now paying a lot more attention than before.
Banzi 2/24/2010 9:36:14 PM
You are spot on chap. To cut a long story shot: We deserve what we are getting, otherwise how do you explain the fact that the people voted for them in such large numbers despite their unsatisfactory track record .A government riddled with corruption, cronyism and nepotism, you name it. Remember, they were running an election campaign on the basis of intimidation and abusing state resources shamelessly. All this for a presidential candidate, tainted with corruption charges, questionable morals and a history of financial troubles. Given all this, what did anyone expect? I say, go ahead comrades, do as you please and let the sleeping dogs lie. When they get up, there will be nothing left in the state coffers just like the NP did when they left government

I agree but, the problem is the masses. Their eyes need to be tested. They are blind followers.
molebatsi athiel manyako 2/28/2010 1:20:44 PM
Sefu Sekgala @ audit the ANC as well: I agree with you, however, let all the so called riches/millionaires in South Africa (SA) be audited including the former apartheid bosses, DA, ID, COSATU, Bassons, Motsepes, farm owners before and pre 1994 including those who relocated to other countries if possible.
Dead Scorpion 2/28/2010 11:59:21 PM
Who will do the investigation? ANC & reporting to ANC. No action will be taken by the ANC against ANC.
D@ma Manyako 3/1/2010 12:25:38 PM
It's an impossible task to audit all you have mentioned. I agree that an audit must be done on the ANC, ANCYL, Cosatu and the others. But, what do you want to prove by auditing the farmers? Rather audit people like the Ramaphosas, Sexwales, Malemas, Mandelas, and other people holding high positions in the government, since 1994. What about the two youngsters that want to buy or bought a mine just recently? Where do they get such a lot of money? We need to stand-up and make our voices heard by the politicians. They, the ANC, must hear and see that we are totally unsatisfied with the state of affairs in this country. They have been voted in because we believed in them to make this democracy work. What is happening at the moment? The fat cats get fatter and the poor just poorer.
Eddy 3/2/2010 8:24:40 AM
It had to start somewhere and Malema was the perfect candidate. No other ANC fat-cat boasted openly about his/her wealth and rocked the boat at the same time. When Gwede Mantashe suddenly went mum after Malema's attacks, I new that something was afoot. Here is a 28-year old oaf butting heads with a seasoned politician twice his age. Naturally, the cookie will crumble in Mantashe's favour.

So, I welcome the audits, let it start with Malema and then spread to the rest. We have to start somewhere.
Me 3/2/2010 12:41:33 PM
The reason why all these others are not on the news is because thier mouths are not as big as Juju's...that's why
&Now 3/2/2010 3:58:57 PM
"How will the audit be done and by whom?" is the big question. Can someone please answer? Talking about this is not helping, our country's newspapers have their role. What about the citizens. How is it done? The outcome should be clear and transparent with no jargon, just plain math.
Witseun 3/2/2010 7:43:13 PM
Yes, I agree. They should be audited. All of them.
Makgano 3/6/2010 2:04:35 PM
Sefu,

You seem to be a hollow assimilated and brainwashed African. I suppose you must read the real history 101. Any auditing that is immersed in political ambitions is devoid of merit and reason. The law enforcement agencies are available to investigate any complaints in line with their mandate. The first step is to report whomever you feel requires an audit and provide the substance for your complaint. Stop this reckless fishing expedition. Sour grapes i guess
NDAMULELO LITHOLE 3/7/2010 2:35:08 PM
First of all, if you can check this two guys Tokyo and Cyril, they donated a lot of money to the ANC during the campaign so their big positions to me are not a suprise because in a way they have invested in the organisation so they have to get something in return. But regardless of their positions in the ANC they also runs their own businesses outside, so the problem is that Malema is just embarking now and he becomes a threat or an opportunity to the media to sell through his name I mean come on guys what would you do if you have connection too, would you let those millions pass through you, lets be neutral and stop being biased
Mhako 3/8/2010 10:19:42 AM
The ANC Goverment is the sole murderers of the people of SA, due to their corrupt behaviours. Shame on you, shame!
Eric 3/8/2010 10:32:19 AM
And while you are at it, please audit the Mandela Children's Fund and the Mandela Foundation too!
MM 3/8/2010 12:17:55 PM
Thanks Makgano for your comment. I think Morena Sekgala's piece is very bias, anti ANC, and doesn't hold water. If the ANC, COSATU, DA, COPE etc. and the individual people belonging to this parties were audited, then we might as well audit everyone in SA. Is there anything wrong is Malema benefitting from government tenders? Sekgala, you may also apply for government tenders if you wish, because of networking, people are connected across the globe. You will end up auditing your uncle, brother, friend, etc.
Jay Jay 3/10/2010 3:54:45 PM
The rot within the ANC is so big it can never be eradicated by anybody within the ANC. How can they, if their president has done the same with the arms deal? There is only one way to fix the problem - people who voted for the ANC must vote for either the DA or Cope who can then govern as a coalition.
mzu man 3/11/2010 10:42:02 AM
Yeah sure, the ANC is facing a situation of it being used by selfish individuals who want to amass wealth in an instant. However, the organisation's policies are clearly against corruption. It's the individuals (who are in leadership positions) in the organisation that are corrupt. A new generation of cadre is needed in the ANC modelled in the historical figures like the Reverend John Dube, Chief Albert Luthuli, Oliver Tambo and Walter Sisulu. Of course, this change within the ANC will take a long time. In the meantime we need a strong and independent crime busting law enforcement agency to deal with corruption at all levels of government and the private sector. You must remember that business people are also responsible for corrupting politicians, remember the chap who gave Tony Yengeni a ridiculus 50% discount, what happened to him? Nothing. Sefu, you must remember that even the ones (COPE) that talk against corruption are ashamadely the products of the closed patronage system they are criticising now. Cronyism and patronage cuts across, even the DA is run by an inner circle led by its CEO, Mr Ryan Coetzee and they decide who will be on their parliamentary list, who will be given what government position (in the Western Cape for example) and so on. The failings in the ANC are not unique to the movement. Corruption can never be completely eliminated but it can be managed. All that is needed is a new type cadre modelled in the lifestyles of people like Bantu Biko and many others. Destroying the ANC (as Sefu is suggesting in an indirect manner) will not help us but will lead to further chaos. God wants us to succeed as a country.
Thabiso 3/12/2010 12:58:03 PM
I work in an auditing environment and I tell you, sometimes I regret doing the course. It is useless, there is lot of bureaucracy, you never know where your findings and reports ended. The bug lies on the principle to whom you report your findings to. Before each and every audit, say, supply chain, you have to study regulations governing SCM and then audit the internal controls in terms of your study. More frequently than not, management do not comply, enforce or ensure conformity with requirements. They care less because in any case, your findings are only going to be tossed under the carpet. It boils down to who knows whom, unless someone in the upper echelons wants to sabotage someone else in the upper echelons
Bongani 7/9/2010 11:14:45 AM
I say audit Sefu and COPE first!
