ANCYL slams Mboweni’s new appointment

2010-02-25 11:30

Former SA Reserve Bank governor Tito Mboweni’s appointment as AngloGold Ashanti’s new chairman was a reward for having protected the interests of “male white capital“, the ANC Youth League said today.

“Tito Mboweni’s appointment into a mining corporation is not at all surprising and reflects the reactionary, nonsensical and backward views he expressed when he was the mis-Governor of the South African Reserve Bank that Mines will not be nationalised in South Africa,” it said in a statement.

“There is no doubt that Tito Mboweni was speaking the views of white capitalists, like those who did in the recent past, which controls the South African economy... particularly the extraction, processing and trade of minerals.”

ANCYL pushes on with call for nationalisation
Mboweni’s appointment, or any other “diversions would not deter the ANC Youth League from forging forward with the nationalisation of mines“, it said.

“The nationalisation of mines is the key towards decisive and radical economic transformation which will benefit all South Africans, particularly the working class and the poor.

“That is why the national general council in September 2010 and the national conference of the ANC in December 2012 will resolve on the nationalisation of mines.” it said.

Mboweni’s appointment takes effect from June 1, 2010. He succeeds Russell Edey.

He has also been appointed as the chairman of packaging group, Nampak. He succeeds outgoing chairman Trevor Evans.

It seems you have no private life if you have anything to do with ANC or Mr. Jacob Zuma. All bad things were said about him and still they are being soid and he doesn't respond engryly to eny of the accusations the factg that he has 5 wives is nobody's business exept people consened people should stop fighting their political batles behind gender and stop looking down up on other peoples cultures and beliefes because it's their constitutional right. Nobody has the right to shoot down other peoples' cultures and beliefs.

I'm not sure I contemplate what Sthe is talking about here. I must catergorically state as a matter of fact, this tendency of always discussing issues outside the parameters of the point raised is very common from ANC especialy these President Zuma supporters. The piece above is informing about ANCYL lambasting the appointment of Mr Mboweni by Anglo Gold. Nothing says anthing about Pres Zuma, or his obvious promiscuity masquaraded as cultural practice. Sthe you are out of order here, on the basis outlined above. I'm in order, the Youth League, I see no reason for her to lambast Tito, because the guy's appointment currently makes business sense. He is qualified and experienced for the job, or are they still fighting the pre-Polokwane battle? Do they mean that ex-president Mbeki shall not take any active role within the political, social, economic programmes of the country? That could mean senseless hatred; in fact the point that Mboweni is against is nationalization. I dont think it means he must deprived of his personal rights. However as the ANCYL strongly believes in this nationalization programme, they shall be able to persuade this one man. This nationalization programme, if it purges and suppresses people, then it gives us more grounds to question and doubt its honesty or genuiness. If the Youth League honestly believes in its programme it should not be worried by mere employees who have no state power as all powers of decision lie within the ANC and the leftists, who are usually good in constructing sound and sensible/rational views when adressing the meetings/councils.Instead of suppressing Mboweni, they should be preparing in the boardroom and lobbying the ANC branches to support their call. Mboweni alone cannot stop nationalization of mines if honestly it will benefit the toiling masses of our country. However, if there are ulterior motives aimed at looting, we as the poor people we will indeed resist to support yuour nationalization of mines call.

Mr Tito Mboweni has a Master's Degree in Economics and many years of work experience in the economy. He does not rely on popularity, tenders and votes for a living. He knows how to use his brains. This is why he was appointed to become the Chairman of Ashanti. Period.
