ANC Youth League (ANCYL) leader Julius Malema will address the organisation’s national executive committee (NEC) and the media at the opening of its lekgotla in Pretoria this week.
Spokesperson Floyd Shivambu said the league’s first national executive committee meeting of the year would be held on Friday.
“The ordinary NEC meeting will discuss the organisational and political developments and progress of the ANCYL since the last ordinary NEC meeting in July 2011,” Shivambu said in statement today.
The league’s yearly national executive committee lekgotla would be held between Friday and Sunday at the St George Hotel in Pretoria.
“ANC Youth League president Julius Malema will open the lekgotla on Friday ... which will be attended by all top five officials of the ANCYL in provinces and three leaders of the ANCYL per region,” Shivambu said.
The ANC disciplinary committee of appeals has dismissed appeals by Malema, Shivambu, and four other youth league officials to overturn their suspensions.
They were found guilty in November of bringing the ANC into disrepute and of sowing division in the party.
The ANC held its first national executive committee meeting for the year at the St George Hotel between February 2 and 5.
ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe told reporters afterwards that the suspension of the six youth league officials would only come into effect once the mitigation process of their sentences was complete.
“There should be no confusion. We have decided to delay everything from kicking in until the processes are completed,” Mantashe said.
Malema was given two weeks to prepare arguments in mitigation of his suspension.
