The ANC Youth League has not arranged a visit with Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, according to a statement released on her behalf.
Yesterday, ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu said they would meet Madikizela-Mandela in Soweto after the announcement of today’s National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal (NDCA) verdict in the case of Julius Malema and other ANCYL leaders.
“Following media reports the family would like to give clarity regarding a pending ‘visit’ by Mr Julius Malema to the residence of Mrs Winnie Madikizela-Mandela,” the statement, issued by Madikizela-Mandela’s personal assistant, Zodwa Zwane, reads.
“There was no undertaking by Mrs Winnie Madikizela-Mandela with any structures of the ANC Youth League to have a visit at her residence. There was no communication made with any of her offices regarding this ‘visit’.”
According to the statement, Madikizela-Mandela has been on leave from all her duties and responsibilities after having undergone a knee operation on January 25.
“The Mandela family would like to request the media to give space and that their privacy is respected to assist Mrs Madikizela-Mandela’s recovery.”
» At 2:50pm, City Press reporter Charl du Plessis tweeted that he had spotted ANCYL secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa, Floyd Shivambu and legal representative Dali Mpofu at the Madikizela-Mandela house. Shivambu later confirmed that the league's top five were present. Read more in City Press on Sunday.
