Numsa backs Mantashe

THE National Union of Metalworkers SA (Numsa) publicly backed the
ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe today after calls for his resignation by
the ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema.
“Mantashe is being singled out and targeted because he is a
communist,” Numsa general secretary Irvan Jim said, adding that Malema wanted
Mantashe to be replaced by the Deputy Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula.
“He (Malema) has taken an anti-Congress of SA Trade Unions and
anti-South African Communist Party posture, a stance that is unprovoked,” said
Jim.
Cosatu and the SACP are the ANC’s alliance partners – the three
movements form what’s known as the tripartite alliance.
Jim further questioned President Jacob Zuma’s silence when his
party’s general secretary was being “attacked”.
