Car crash involving Jub Jub kills four teens

2010-03-09 09:30

Local hip hop artist, Jub Jub, was arrested along with another motorist after their speeding cars smashed into four high school pupils in Soweto yesterday afternoon, Johannesburg emergency services said.

The four boys, aged between 17 and 19, were walking home from school with two other friends in Mdlalose Street, Protea North at around 4pm when the accident happened, spokesman Percy Morokane said.

Johannesburg metro police spokeswoman, Inspector Edna Mamonyane said two Mini Coopers were racing down the road, which runs between Protea Glen and Protea North.

“It is a two-way street and one of the cars went into the other lane, driving in the lane of oncoming traffic, parallel to one another.”

When a car came from the other direction, the driver tried to swerve back into the right lane and crashed into the Mini he was allegedly racing.

“They both drove onto the pavement and mowed down the four young boys who were still in school uniform,” Mamonyane said.

Morokane said four of the boys were killed. The other two were in critical conditions with multiple fractures and head injuries.

Local ward councillor and Inkatha Freedom Party Soweto leader, Dlangezwa Mvelase, said that the community was “very angry” over the death of the four boys.

“The law must deal accordingly with people who play silly games on the roads, killing innocent children,” said Mvelase.

Three of the boys killed were from Jules High School in the Johannesburg CBD and one from Altmont High School in Protea North.

Soweto police spokesman Inspector Kay Makhubela said the two drivers were arrested following the accident and that they will appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The two drivers will be facing charges of culpable homicide and negligent and reckless driving.

For every action there is a reaction. That guy is responsible for what he has done. Shame on him.

Jub Jub, you are one of the dumbest hip-hop artist I've ever supported. You just took some kids life "Ndikhokhele" my foot.
Tasha 3/9/2010 2:06:23 PM
They are stupid idiots and must pay for what they've done!!!! My condolences to the families.
fhumu 3/9/2010 9:56:31 PM
In South Africa, there is no justice. Just because he is a so called singer, he won't even stay long in jail. Just a few weeks after, he will be roaming in the streets, doing the same old things. If it was in USA, he was going to go to death row. How I wish SA was like the USA so that Jub Jub might get what he deserves.
Patience mufamadi 3/10/2010 8:56:30 AM
He should go to jail for this. I mean he took five innocent lives and deprived 5 people of their future plans and created a wound that will never heal to the poor mothers of the boys!
LOLA 3/10/2010 10:21:01 AM
I DO NOT KNOW HOW THE FAMILIES ARE FEELING RIGHT NOW, BUT I AM SURE GOD HAS A PLAN FOR THEM AS FOR JUB JUB AND HIS FRIEND LORD HAVE MERCY ON THEIR SOULS. JUSTICE HAS BEEN TEST IF EVER THEY LET THESE GUYS OUT ON BAIL.
Jason 3/10/2010 10:54:58 AM
I agree. they should pay to the fullest extent of the law.
Francis 3/10/2010 11:36:46 AM
Those two drivers must be hanged just like the four boyz who are dead. RIP Guyz.
marius 3/10/2010 12:53:19 PM
Condolences to the families. The drivers will get off due lack of evidence. They will not do any time. The law protects the rich.
Refilwe 3/10/2010 3:07:08 PM
To the families of the boys, this is a hard time to all of you, words are not enough to comfort you but find comfort in GOD's hand. Jub-Jub you are a disgrace to human kind.
mzokhona 3/10/2010 3:32:41 PM
May God give the families strength and power to face this difficult situation condolences to the family. Jub Jub and your friend, see what you did? jail jail jail
ITUMELENG 3/10/2010 3:42:50 PM

mbuti zweloxolo 3/10/2010 5:04:28 PM
It is wrong of our celebrities to behave like this in public, yet they want us to buy their music but still they kill us. The law shoul dtake its course. As a student, I dearly simpathize with the school and the families of decesed. Our innocence talents are wasted again. May their soul srest in peace. They were killed while paving their future.
TOKYO 3/10/2010 8:48:40 PM
Jub Jub must rot in jail.
samson 3/11/2010 8:58:38 AM
Let justice deal with this but, lets hope it will be the right thing. Both of them must have learned something out of this even though lives of our future generation were taken.
Kgarahara 3/11/2010 10:58:23 AM
What Jub Jub and company murderers did is unacceptable. They must face the music of the law and the judge who's going to handle this must be harsh and send a message to other celebrities.
MEMORY 3/11/2010 11:23:35 AM
I don't think in this case, money can buy freedom. The incident has hurt th whole nation. I don't know the kids but, this is too much of a burden, it's painful and those kids were robbed of their future. As a woman i feel the pain, my children. What happened to maturity, isn't he supposed to be a grown up? Father to be. If justice doesn't take its cause, Jub Jub and his partner in murder, cannot have a life out of jail. They deserve the comfort of jail.
yanga 3/11/2010 12:35:37 PM
He always sings "ndikhokhele". Sorry, you deserve to go to jail. I'm not talking about your stupid friend.
lady p 3/11/2010 1:08:43 PM
This is so painful, I do not understand what you were thinking Jub Jub. You seriuosly failed the youth who looked up to you. I have heard my son saying he will never listen to your music again. I wish that justice will be done. From Botswana, condolences to the families.
Maureen Davis 3/11/2010 2:39:16 PM
My deepest sympathy to the families & school, young innocent lives have been taken as they were paving their future may their souls rest in peace.
Ayanda 3/12/2010 12:09:36 PM
I know four young lives have been lost because of "Jub Jub" and his friend, but when I look at this matter it seems as if people are just anti-Jub Jub. Jub Jub must be judged according to the judiciary system of South Africa. People are just full of envy and jealousy.
alpsie 3/13/2010 12:43:40 PM
Oh my word! First he walks out of Survivor....now this!
willard loya sithole 3/13/2010 7:02:22 PM
shame on you jub jub you are a disgrace if it was in Europe ,Bostwana@ZIMBABWE be uzoyikhotha imbenge yomile mfana.i hate you 4 that.
pilly 3/14/2010 4:35:42 AM
Ayanda shame you are totaly out. I wouldn't think of anyone being jealous for someone as insensetive as this Jub Jub guy, souly it seem's your good follower even if so he has done a terrable thing and the way all of us see it the law hasnt been that fair, I bet if it was an unkown person there'd be highlights on how the "killer" will be jugde by the court of law, we can't all be  so blind thinking he's a star so go easy on him. You are unreasnable and unthoughtfull, RIP let God serve your case.
Sam 3/15/2010 6:03:02 PM
Who is the other guy that was racing with JUB JUB? May the LORD bless the souls of the young boys to rest in peace. They broke the commandment from the Bible that says thou shall not kill. Let them go 2 jail, that's what they deserve. I am dissappointed in them; especially Jub Jub, I was expecting good things from him.
Eunice 3/18/2010 11:43:13 AM
Jub Jub must rot in jail
tshidi 3/19/2010 12:18:04 PM
Oh my gosh. I'm busy reading these articles at work and I'm in tears because I'm a mother and I cannot even imagine how the parents feel; its is so horrible. What is this world coming to? I'm a deeply sad. I'm lost for words but I pray that their souls may rest in peace and sending my condolences to the family. I dont think I can forgive nor forget because how do you take innocent souls and think you can get away with it by apologising? No ways it doesnt work like that. Celebs should get the same conviction as ordinary citizens finish.
