Umgeni Water intends spending R3 billion on water infrastructure, the KwaZulu-Natal water utility’s chairperson said today.
“In response to customer water demands and to eliminate backlogs, Umgeni Water has committed R3 billion for bulk potable water supply infrastructure development,” Andile Mahlalutye said.
Umgeni Water’s master plan intended matching water resources with projected demand.
About R1 billion would be used for current and future growth, another billion for rural development, and R800 million for upgrading and rehabilitating infrastructure.
Mahlalutye said the Northern Aqueduct Booster Pump Station would enhance water supply to the eThekwini metropolitan municipality and eliminate water interruptions in northern areas, such as Ntuzuma.
