Three foreign journalists in South Africa to cover the World Cup
were robbed at gunpoint at their lodge in Magaliesburg earlier today, police
said.
Colonel Hangwani Mulaudzi said two suspects broke into a
three-bedroom chalet at the Nutbush Boma lodge at about 4am.
“One of the journalists was awake and saw the men.
One of the
suspects pointed a gun at the journalist and told him to lie down. He obliged
and the suspects ransacked the place, taking passports, clothes, laptops and
cameras.”
Mulaudzi said the two other journalists slept through the
attack.
Two of the journalists are from Portugal. One is from Spain.
“We have good leads. We are tracking them. We are hoping to make an
arrest soon,” Mulaudzi said.
He said the lodge would have to “jack up” its security.
“Our guys went there and are assisting the victims. The victims
appear to be in good health.”
A receptionist at the lodge, who did not want to be named, said the
tourists seemed “fine” and the police were still on the scene.
