Zuma sorry after nation says: ZIP IT!

2010-02-07 13:00

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma’s unprecedented apology to South Africans, his party and the tripartite alliance has come as he faces criticism of his sexual be haviour.

“I deeply regret the pain that I have caused to my family, the ANC, the alliance and South Africans in general,” Zuma said yesterday.

“I have over the past week taken time to consider and reflect on the issues relating to a relationship I had outside of wedlock,” he said, saying the week had put his family and the ANC under pressure.

Zuma received a massive national wake-up call this week after the disclosure that he had just fathered another baby, possibly his 20th, by a woman who is not his wife.

The president has been criticised by his staunchest ally, Cosatu’s Zwelinzima Vavi, while his SA Communist Party faithful have not uttered a word of support.

Support from the ANC Youth League was tepid, and while the ANC came out guns blazing in support of Zuma’s “cultural rights” on Monday, it tempered its position as the national atmosphere of disgust and opprobrium intensified.

A City Press survey of ANC national executive committee members established that most of them were critical of Zuma’s behaviour, believing he had lost his grip in the fight against HIV/Aids.

City Press went around the country this week – to the president’s home in Nkandla and to the Eastern Cape, Cape Town, Free State, Mpumalanga and Gauteng.

While Zuma has some support among those who say his private life should remain private, on the whole the message from South Africans young and old, male and female, rural and urban, to their president was: “Zip it, Mr President.”

For sure, our President should ZIP IT...We are tired of embarrasment coming out of the presidency. Surely this kind of behaviour takes us back into the dark ages. No culture promotes bearing of children outside of marriage. Leaders should act responsibly at all times, no matter what...

I wonder what his daughters are saying about the whole issue. Maybe the word discreet has no meaning to him.

No, this tata is just finished. He is really not a leader but a STOOGE. IT'S A DISGRACE 2 HAVE THIS MAN AS OUR PRESIDENT.

Just another dissapointed 'son' 2/8/2010 4:03:22 PM
Zuma, you are a terrible example for young black guys like myself. I must say, I'm disgusted by a man of your age and stature (or should I say there lack of). You're as pathetic as a small boy having sexual issues. You have lost many peoples' respect including mine. For me, the remaining years are a mere formality otherwise, leave. I don't want my country in the hands of a pervert. You have let me down. As much as we need to retain our heritage, there are things which a president just shouldn't do for the sake of creating a sane society. There are a multitude of cultures in the world and no man can really judge amongst them as to what is right or not without creating an uproar. There's a standard and principles which a nation needs to follow, otherwise anything would fly under the umbrella of “cultural rights”.

Zuma must step down. Kgalema Motlanthe for President.

I think that now is the time for us to understand the exact meaning of the words 'umshini wam'. Mshini wam means too many things but it simply denotes that mshini wam is only about sex .Do you still remember when he was accused of raping that women and had a shower- mshini wam was the song of his celabration after he wasn't found guilty of rape. In that song he says 'hayi uyandibambezela' (you are delaying me), give me my machine gun. We all should know that it never be good to name a dog a bad name and hang him. Zuma in Xhosa means rape. Take them Baba Msholozi take them. Just beware of Zumafiction

JZ is stupid. He must stop behaving like a child. Shame on him!
Willy Maphanga (kgautswane) Limpopo 2/23/2010 2:09:17 PM
It seems as we were voting for his Mshini to be used.

Being sorry does not promise a change of heart and behaivour. So what is Zuma really sorry about? A leader should always be upright, you've failed Mr President at being a role model 4 our kids.
SEKEPE SEJA EMMANUEL 2/28/2010 12:24:04 PM
Our president Zuma must take his personal problem secret.
makhumalo 3/3/2010 10:31:12 AM
Yah I agree with you girl, Zuma must step down or else all men will follow his lead...culture my foot. There is no such culture, this is woman abuse nje taking advantage of women.
gaven philasande 3/5/2010 3:10:05 PM
Every human has freedom of expression whether emotionally or by actions, but not at the expense of others. Zuma is surelly overdoing it and he knows nobody can stop him and his camp, so let's just live with it. beware that's all I can say!
