Bafana vs. France: tips for Carlos
2010-06-22 14:15
What should Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto
Parreira’s strategy be in the 2010 Fifa World Cup match against France this
afternoon? We asked the experts.

Coach, I would like to see Steven Pienaar used out wide with Teko
Modise dropping to the bench, while Siphiwe Tshabalala keeps his place.
The French will be disrupted after the “incredible sulk” saga and
will not want to play for coach Raymond Domenech. Their hearts will not be in
the clash.
I believe they have already made peace with the fact that they are
going home early, so exploit this and score the three goals needed for
victory.
But then again, France are as unpredictable as a child in a toy
store, so Bafana will have to be at their best to claim victory in Bloem.

presenter on Talk Radio 702
I think Bafana have improved in leaps and bounds in their playing
style building up to the World Cup. A side ranked 83rd in the world going into
the tournament, realistically never stood a chance – yet they proved otherwise
against Mexico.
Against Uruguay, Bafana were simply outplayed.
I think for today’s game, there’s no need to change the formation
or playing style.
I would like to see Parreira start with some star players on the
bench, bringing them on when the battle becomes too tough.
I believe some of Bafana’s players get wrapped up in the hype of
the tournament and need to focus more on the job at hand.
Football is a team sport. There’s no point in trying to be the
hero, when you need the whole team to go through...
Go Bafana – I do believe you can do it!
» Ryan Botha, Moroka
Swallows player
Push Steven Pienaar to the wing to get some width. Put Booth into
the central defence to help control the back four so we have the chance to
attack with free-flowing football.
Parreira needs to play a more attacking game today. Mphela needs
support from Parker and Pienaar needs to move right up to them.
We need to keep France on the back foot. From what we’ve seen in
the last two games, keep the same team but formations need to be based on a
style to attack France. We need to win the game, which is the number one
priority.
» Zola Doda, assistant
editor of KickOff Magazine
Playing France will not be easy regardless of which players they
have on the pitch. But this is one match where coach Parreira should use an
attacking formation because South Africa’s chances of making it through to the
next round are very slim.
Play attacking football, France defenders Bacary Sagna, Eric
Abidal, William Gallas and Patrice Evra are very short in stature so Matthew
Booth’s height will be needed up front when it comes to attacking crosses, free
kicks and corner kicks.
I would suggest:
Goalkeeper: Moneeb Josephs
Anchorman: Reneilwe Letsholonyane
Rightwing: Siphiwe Tshabalala
