Holiday club has disgruntled client treading water
South African Getaway continues to give a disgruntled subscriber the run-around.
The holiday club seems reluctant to cancel Themba Msimang’s membership or refund him after he was duped into taking out membership.
Msimang said: “This is a frustrating experience. It is hard to believe that there are companies offering such a shoddy service.
“I contacted Hotline hoping for a positive resolution. It has been months since I lodged the complaint but it looks like SA Getaway is not cooperating.”
He contacted Hotline a few months ago to complain about illegal deductions the company has been making from his credit card.
In September 2008, Msimang received a call from a representative of SA Getaway informing him about a holiday product.
Msimang agreed to pay a registration fee of R2 680 using his credit card but the company failed to issue him with documents reflecting his membership so he decided to cancel it.
However, he struggled to receive a refund from SA Getaway. He claims that a consultant from the company made empty promises to pay out the refund.
Instead, Msimang discovered that SA Getaway made two separate deductions of R2 926 from his credit card in March and April last year.
After fighting a losing battle with SA Getaway for more than a year, Msimang decided to contact Hotline. “I wish Hotline can help me because I am tired of all their lies.”
On May 20, Hotline referred a complaint to the SA Getaway offices in Cape Town and was advised to contact company director Anne Brown.
She promised to investigate the matter and provide Hotline with feedback but that did not happen.
Two weeks later, Hotline contacted Brown but a “colleague” claimed that she no longer worked for the company.
Hotline was then referred to a Lyle Smith who also made empty promises to investigate the matter.
Smith failed to respond to an email from Hotline and to return messages left on her cellphone.
This week, Hotline contacted Smith once again but a recorded male voice advises callers to contact the office directly. However, on calling the office, another voice prompts callers to leave messages.
None of the messages Hotline left with SA Getaway have been returned.
