Scene City: Ready to fly
Celebrities take up the retail fashion challenge
The season of horse racing celebrity events is about to heat up a notch or two, with the J&B Met only two weekends away.
It takes place at Kenilworth Race Course in Cape Town.
On Wednesday evening, the plush Cavendish Square shopping centre in the Mother City hosted its annual J&B Met Gourmet Gallop event.
Ten media personalities and bloggers were asked to participate in a Made to Fly FashionChallenge by creating their ultimate Made to Fly (this year’s theme) ensemble from the mall’s retailers.
5FM celebrity gossip queen and Expresso’s Jen Su flew into town specifically for the event. Her neon-orange hat ensured she stood out.
Actress Natalie Becker, GoodHope FM’s Ayanda Tini and Carl Wastie, Bravo host Tracey Lange, e.tv journalist Tanya Nefdt as well as Expresso host Leigh-Anne Williams were just some of the finalists who showed their flair for fashion and will be competing for the main prize.
Three of Cavendish Square’s restaurants provided the tasty nibbles and drinks, starting with pizza slices and mojitos from Col’Cacchio Pizzeria, moving on to the Ocean Basket for the main course (where most feasted on sushi) and ending off at Tribakery, where cupcakes were on offer.
This was part of the reason the event dragged on a bit too long.
Williams made her entry an hour after the event started, while Becker stuck to her signature black in an off-the-shoulder style.
I must give props to Lange, who clearly has a banging body and always wears a smile on her face. Tini, who acts in the drama Montana, rocked sexy leather shorts.
The winning celebrity ensemble will be announced at the Met after a public Twitter vote.
