A week of fabulous TV viewing
The new year is in full swing, and here are just the shows you want to look out for to get you back to full couch-occupying fitness
Sunday 6 January
Man v Monster
Nat Geo Wild
The show follows adventurer and cinematographer Richard Terry as he investigates legends and faces up to the truths of some of the most feared and cryptic species.
In each episode he investigates an animal myth, travels to the source of the story to get eye-witness accounts before setting off on a quest to encounter the creature fuelling the tales – it’s like a version of Mythbusters.
Tonight Terry comes up close with the Bengal tiger in an episode titled Man-Eating Menace.
Strictly Come Dancing
It’s an overdose of dancing shoes, sequins and feathers as celebrities team up with pros to compete for the dancing crown. This is the ninth season of the show in the UK and it begins with a red carpet launch featuring Dolly Parton.
Contestants include legendary singer Lulu; Robbie Savage, the former Wales footballer; actress Anita Dobson; drummer Harry Judd of McFly fame; and Holly Valance, actress, singer and model. Psst! Our local version is also in the works to return.
We Bought A Zoo
With an all-star cast that includes Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson and Thomas Haden Church, this comedy drama ticks all the boxes for a great night in. Set in California, it’s about Benjamin, a man who loses his wife and sets off to start a new life. He moves to the countryside and buys a large house that has a zoo to renovate.
His daughter is delighted, but his son is not happy about it. See what it takes to get a zoo to its former glory – with amusing missteps.
Ice Loves Coco
He’s ditched his gangsta rap image to be a homely, cuddly husband who plays with dogs and is surrounded by all things pink and feminine. See what marriage to model Coco Austin has done to the formerly hardcore Ice-T.
They’ve been married for more than 10 years. It’s unlikely and unconventional. This month Coco hosts a Licious fashion show during the New York Fashion Week, the couple butt heads while building their dream home and things go awry at a friend’s wedding.
See how the other side lives. The other side being southern California where, as Ne-Yo puts it “trouble is a bubble in a champagne glass and dream and reality are one and the same”.
The show, hosted by David Burtka, covers opulent A-list estates, sprawling mansions and luxury pads. From a Beverly Hills home worth $58 million, complete with saltwater pools and a king-sized walk-in pantry, to a tour of Madonna’s former abode, this is truly extreme wealth and luxury.
