Internal SABC station on the cards
The SABC is planning a new internal radio station to communicate with its employees.
The station will be based in the office of the public broadcaster’s communications chief, Kaizer Kganyago.
Kganyago confirmed that the radio station would be piloted to see if it will be effective before a proper plan is drafted.
He said it would broadcast for up to three hours daily.
“It will only work when people are here,” Kganyago said.
It is not yet clear how much it will cost or who the presenters will be.
Kganyago said the radio station, for which the SABC will not require a licence from the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, would be used to communicate with staff and outsiders will not have access to it.
“It’ll be like writing a memo,” he said.
Kganyago said the radio station would be similar to those in some of the country’s retailers like Pick n Pay.
