as a commemorative gift to people who attend the opening of Parliament, which

“Today is a very special day for all South Africans, and probably
more significant than the day of Madiba’s release as it marks 20 years of his
emancipation from incarceration,” he said. “The most significant aspect of it is
that he is with us today and is able to celebrate this day with the entire
nation.”

Singh added that he was honoured to have been able to communicate
with Madiba while he was in prison and to have been chosen to produce films on
the former statesman’s life.

“As a salute to Madiba and his exceptional commitment to the
nation, I produced a five minute film which was played at cinemas earlier this
week,” he said. “In saluting Madiba today, we also salute the many thousands of
people that committed their lives to our liberation, including Oliver Tambo,
Walter Sisulu, Ahmed Kathrada, Govan Mbeki, Joe Slovo and especially the Mandela
family.”
