The Celebrity Bake Off
A high-tea experience was just what I needed this week and I got just that when I took part in the BBC Lifestyle Celebrity Bake Off challenge this Tuesday.
The event at Miele Kitchens in Bryanston was a testing time because I had to bake a cake – something very foreign to me.
And my competition were celebrity TV personalities Boitumelo Thulo and Dineo Moeketsi, 5FM’s Angela Guastella, singer Pixie Bennett and actors Catriona Andrews, Mandla Gaduka and Maggie Benedict.
Initially I thought I would totally suck at the challenge but once I saw Generations actor Mandla – who was the only celebrity male – getting into it, I gained some momentum and went ahead. The first challenge was to bake a cake as seen on the BBC Lifestyle show.
Then we were given another cake to decorate using all sorts of goodies: coloured icing, coconut sprinkles and other yummy stuff.
I made a cake for my daughter Amani, covered it with marshmallows, flowers and cute pink ribbons and wrote her name on top.
Of course I didn’t win the prize – a mixer – but I must say I enjoyed my day sipping tea and eating scrumptious cupcakes.
