Pics – Fab vs Frump
I love awards season. I watch everything from the Baftas to the Oscars, and religiously follow those shows that are not televised – like the Critics’ Choice Awards and the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards.
My award diet comprises of who wins, who walks the red carpet with whom, who made the rudest/sweetest/funniest speech and, most importantly, who wore what.
The Golden Globes set the tone for the big events and this year there was plenty to choose from as Hollywood stars walked the red carpet in skin-revealing frocks on a freezing California afternoon.
Here’s my pick of the hotties and the notties of this year’s Golden Globes.

Fab: Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery may have lost the award for Best Actress in a TV Series Drama to Claire Danes, but she was a winner in the style stakes. The gold high neck and shoulders of her dress might have looked like a pimped out football player’s uniform, but they worked with the body-hugging bottom|| Picture: AP/John Shearer

Frump: Is actress Alyssa Milano pregnant? Whether she is or not, it does not excuse her wearing that egg yolk-yellow curtain in combustible material. Wrong on so many levels. Picture: Reuters

Fab: The ballet-pink fishtail Marchesa gown worn by actress Amy Adams was breathtaking. It hugs her curves in all the right places and was beautifully complemented by the understated Tiffany & Co jewels. Picture: Reuters

Frump: According to news reports, this custom Vera Wang gown features hand applique floral chantilly lace with gathered silk tulle overlay and wrapped horsehair belt. On actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, it’s just a frumpy granny dress. Moving along . . . Picture: Reuters

Fab: ‘I beat Meryl Streep!’ joked Jennifer Lawrence on scooping the Best Actress Golden Globe. She also beat a whole lot of starlets on the red carpet in her red Dior dress. It was a perfect fit, beautifully accessorised and on the right side of sexy. Picture: Reuters

Frump: It seems Eva Longoria has gone from Desperate Housewife to Desperate Non-Working Actress Seeking Attention. How desperately sad. Picture: Jason Redmond/Reuters

Fab: I might not understand most of what comes out of her mouth, but Salma Hayek is eloquent in the language of ‘sexy’. That tumbling mane of raven hair, the scarlet lips, big boobs, tiny waist and shimmering Gucci dress were the perfect combination. Picture: Reuters

Frump: I love Rachel Weisz. I love Louis Vuitton. I love shift dresses. I love polka dots. I don not love them all together at the same time, on the same person. This look was suppose to be fun and flirty; it just made Weisz look like an ageing Lolita. Picture: Jason Redmond/Reuters

Fab: Yay to Lucy Liu! The ballsy actress walked the red carpet in a floral Carolina Herrera gown that managed to be both romantic and edgy at the same time. What else would you expect from the doyen of New York fashion? We thank you, Ms Herrera . . . Picture: Reuters

Frump: Maybe I’m not fashion forward enough, but Kerry Washington’s Miu Miu dress just missed the mark for me thanks to the solid cream material that made up the back. That took away the glamour and left it looking like a risque church outfit. Picture: Reuters

Fab: The golden rule in fashion is that you either show boob or leg, but never both. Actress Katharine McPhee bucked that trend in her tuxedo-inspired dress with a plunging neckline and a high slit - and it worked wonders. Wow! Picture: Mario Anzuoni/Reuters

Fugly Frump: The award for the fugliest dress goes to actress Lena Dunham, the creator/producer/star of Girls. For a spunky 26-year-old, she sure let the side down in this burgundy monstrosity that looked heavier than a theatre’s drapes. Picture: Reuters
