5 killed in accident, teenager at wheel
Five youths were killed when a bakkie, apparently driven by a 14-year-old, overturned in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.
Community safety spokesperson Joseph Mabuza said the Nissan Navara was transporting approximately 13 young people and driven by a teenager estimated to be 14 years old.
“The vehicle was travelling from Thulamahashe towards Dwarsloop when it overturned … at the New Forest at 11.40pm on Monday,” he said.
Five of the young people were killed during the accident while six others were seriously injured, including the driver.
MEC for Community Safety and Liaison Vusi Shongwe called for the arrest of the owner of the vehicle “as accidents such as these could be avoided by not allowing youngsters to access vehicles”.
Mabuza said police were still conducting the identification process and further details on the incident would be made available later.
