Boy, two others held for cable theft
Two men and a 16-year-old boy were arrested for possession of suspected stolen copper cables, KwaZulu-Natal police have said.
“(Police) sourced information regarding the theft and stripping of high tension power cables and swooped into the suspects’ hide-out in the bushes near the Park Rynie railway station,” said Colonel Vincent Mdunge.
The teenage boy was found guarding some of the stolen cables and later led police to the two men who were involved in the theft.
“Preliminary investigations led police to a local scrap metal dealer where a number of lengths of copper wire were confiscated. The copper had allegedly been sold to the dealer by the suspects,” said Mdunge.
The scrap yard owner had not yet been arrested but he could possibly face charges of buying stolen goods.
The two men and the boy would appear in the Scottsburgh Magistrate’s Court on Monday where they would face charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
