Carl Pistorius in court next month
Carl Pistorius, the brother of murder accused Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, is expected to appear at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court next month to face a culpable homicide charge.
Pistorius was involved in an accident in 2008 between Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging, south of Johannesburg, in which Marietjie Barnard died.
According to National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Medupe Simasiku, Carl Pistorius’ trial is set down for two days – on March 27 and 28.
“The case was initially struck off the roll due to outstanding information,” said Simasiku.
The outstanding information included details of the accident and medical reports, which were found at the Johannesburg metro police offices.
Simasiku said officers who handled the accident scene took the information to the metro police’s offices.
He said the case was then re-enrolled.
Meanwhile, Barnard’s family say they are not interested in participating in any reports about Carl Pistorius.
“We only wish to be left alone so that we can keep this issue where it belongs, in the past,” one of Barnard’s daughters said in an email to City Press.
“An accident is an accident and taking this to court will not bring our mother back. It will just unnecessarily destroy another life.”
She said Carl Pistorius’ conscience had punished him enough.
