Fake driver’s licence racket bust
Four men have been arrested in connection with a fake learner’s and driver’s licence racket in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, police said.
The four were taken into custody after allegedly swindling a woman out of R11 000, spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said today.
They apparently took R5 500 for a learner’s licence and another R5 500 for the driver’s licence from an unsuspecting parent, who paid these amounts on her daughter’s behalf.
Police pounced after the Road Traffic Inspectorate confirmed the licences were fraudulent.
They confiscated a laptop computer and a printer, believed to have been used to make the licences, in two of the suspect’s homes on Florida Road.
The men, aged between 24 and 29, would appear in the Umlazi Magistrates’ Court on fraud charges tomorrow.
