The man, who police say was a good friend of the girl’s father, allegedly raped the teenager on Friday night around 9pm, according to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya.

The girl’s mother laid charges against her husband’s friend, a regular visitor at the family home, after she found him sleeping in her daughter’s room around 9pm on Friday night.

“The 15-year-old teenager was thereafter taken to the local clinic where it was confirmed that she had been raped,” Sibiya said.

When confronted by the girl’s mother, the alleged rapist apologised, according to police.

Sibiya said the teenager’s mother was shocked and disappointed at the man’s action because the family trusted him.

The man, who lives in the same area as his victim, will apply for bail next week and was remanded in custody.

Sibiya said police still need to verify the alleged rapist’s address.
