Five arrested for impersonating cops, robbing business
Five men were arrested for allegedly impersonating police officers and robbing a business of an undisclosed amount of cash in Woodlands, Pietermaritzburg.
The men aged between 36 and 52 held up staff on Saturday at PPL Scrapyard in Lincoln road and stole an undisclosed amount of money, KwaZulu-Natal police’s Colonel Vincent Mdunge said.
Mdunge said a local resident who was in the area saw the incident unfold and called police.
Police were informed that one of the men was in full uniform while the others had police appointment cards.
“As the members were proceeding to the business premises they spotted a Red Astra and it fitted the description of the suspect’s vehicle given to them,” Mdunge said.
The vehicle was stopped and searched. Police recovered uniform, appointment cards, R650 and two unlicensed firearms.
Mdunge said it was not clear what happened to the money which was stolen from the scrap yard.
The men were charged for the possession of unlicensed firearms, armed robbery and impersonating a police officer.
