Full statement: Pistorius family satisfied with bail hearing
The Pistorius family is satisfied with the outcome of today’s (Wednesday, February 20 2013) proceedings with reference to Oscar Pistorius’ bail hearing.
The investigating officer Hilton Botha confirmed during cross examination that the known ballistic and forensic evidence found on the scene where Reeva Steenkamp sadly lost her life was consistent with Oscar’s version of events that the incident was a tragic accident.
They trust that everyone has more clarity on this very tragic event.
The Pistorius family finds the contradictions in Botha’s testimony extremely concerning.
Oscar’s uncle, Arnold Pistorius, says that contrary to police and media reports that a banned substance was found in Oscar’s house, his nephew, “Oscar, was not using any drugs listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency banned substances, usage of which would ban him from competing in athletics competitions.
“The IAAF will have records of every single drugs test that was undertaken in and out of competitions. He has been tested on a number of occasions during the last couple of years and he has never failed a drug test to date.”
Given Oscar’s iconic status internationally, it is highly unlikely that Oscar could be a flight risk, should he be granted bail.
“The family would like to reiterate its view that Pistorius does not pose a flight risk, which is evident having regard to his international stature and exposure.”
