Man arrested for impersonating police general
A 32-year-old Limpopo man was arrested for allegedly boasting about being a police general.
The man – who called himself General Joseph Maepa – apparently pretended to be an officer who had the authority to sign official police affidavits, said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.
“The arrest followed dramatic events earlier yesterday [Thursday] when the suspect coerced innocent students and ordinary people, swindling them out of R15 a page.”
Mulaudzi said the man had not only used Maepa’s name but had also disguised himself to look like him.
The real Maepa is the cluster commander of Polokwane.
When the police searched the man they also found a toy gun tucked under his pants. He was taken to police station and charged with impersonating a police officer.
He was expected to appear at a local magistrates court soon.
