More than R3bn ‘fruitless and unauthorised’ spending in ECape
All provincial departments and public entities in the Eastern Cape failed to get completely clean audits from the Auditor General.
These departments and entities incurred more than R3 billion in unauthorised and fruitless expenditure, the Dispatch Online reported today.
The financial performance of 14 departments and nine public entities worsened in the latest round of auditing for 2011/12 compared to the previous financial year.
The AG could not come to an opinion about the provincial education department due to lack of supporting documentation.
The department had unauthorised expenditure of R1.45 billion and fruitless expenditure of R58 million, according to a report seen by the Dispatch Online.
The figures were revealed when departments and entities tabled their AG annual reports at a provincial legislature sitting in Humansdorp on Tuesday.
