Motorists warned about number-plate fraud
Metro police in Joburg warned motorists they faced stiff penalties if found driving with tampered number plates.
“If motorists tamper with number plates, or spray them in such a way that they are not visible, then the driver can be arrested for number-plate fraud,” spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said today.
Motorists would be fined R500 for each missing plate, and would be arrested if a vehicle was without both.
Obscured number plates would incur a R250 fine.
