I’m your worst nightmare
Who’s to blame for the 1 200-plus death toll on South African roads this festive season? As the debate raged on this week, we asked Facebook users to confess their worst driving sins – with frightening results.
Studying for an exam, watching porn, having sex and using a laptop are among the activities South Africans tackle while driving, according to our snap poll.
Pressing down on the accelerator while having sex, “kissing n kiddling while doing something like 140km/h” and “watching porn on my laptop while driving @ 120km/h in a 60 zone” were among the responses.
Consumers of porn are not the only ones who use laptops while at the wheel. Wrote Pilot S Ngake: “Use my laptop. It was a hectic day.”
Others confessed to putting on make-up, sleeping and vomiting while driving.
Using cellphones while driving is common, including “letting my fingers do the walking on my phone while driving”, talking on the phone, SMSing and chatting on bbm and WhatsApp.
Also common among the responses are driving drunk and reaching for various objects on the back seat while driving at high speed.
An uncommon response came from Masego Khumalo, who said he had a fight with his ex and “then drove 120km/h on a gravel road!”
Richard Borrett’s response gets our vote: “Sharing the road with other drivers (is) both stupid & dangereaux (sic)!”
