Oscar believed Reeva could be the one he’d marry – friend
Murder accused Oscar Pistorius believed Reeva Steenkamp could be “the one he’d marry”. And Steenkamp would have married him if he had asked her, the court has heard.
In a statement read out by Pistorius’ lawyer, Advocate Barry Roux, in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court today, Steenkamp’s best friend, Sam Greyvenstein, said: “Reeva told me that she really liked Oscar Pistorius. She said he treated her ‘like gold’.”
“Reeva said she would marry Oscar Pistorius if he asked her. She said he was intense but she loved him,” Greyvenstein said.
Roux also read a statement from Justin Divaris, a friend whom Pistorius called after the shooting.
“I introduced Oscar and Reeva. It was obvious that they were immediately attracted to each other,” Divaris said.
“Oscar said Reeva was a fantastic person who really understood him. He told me she could be the one he’d marry.”
Earlier, Roux read out Pistorius’ affidavit in which he claimed he had shot a suspected intruder through the bathroom door.
Pistorius, a double amputee, had felt vulnerable because he wasn’t wearing his prosthetic legs and believed he had to protect himself and Steenkamp.
