SA man in Zambia crash
A South African farm manager is suspected of causing an accident where more than 50 people died near the Zambian capital, Lusaka.
Zambia police spokesperson Elizabeth Kangela told the SABC today that a vehicle, a bus, and a truck were involved in the accident.
The vehicle, supposedly belonging to a South African, tried to overtake the bus and collided with the oncoming truck.
“He (the man) is believed to be South African. He is receiving treatment at the moment so we have not charged him yet,” Kangela said.
Agence France Presse reported yesterday that the bus, carrying 73 people, and the truck collided, killing 53 people.
President Jacob Zuma today sent his condolences to the people of Zambia following the road accident.
“Our hearts go out to the families, relatives and friends of the deceased. Our thoughts are with the injured as we wish them a speedy recovery,” Zuma was quoted saying in a statement.
