Six teens appear for murder
Six teenagers will appear in the Mookgophong Magistrates’ Court in Limpopo today on charges of murder and rape in connection with the murder of the three siblings.
Bafana Kekana (9), Richard Kekana (12) and Johanna Kekana (12) were murdered in Mookgophong in August.
Limpopo police spokesperson brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the police made the arrest following intensive investigations.
“Yesterday, the police arrested six youngsters, aged between 12 and 14, in connection with the murder of the three Kekana siblings. Their bodies were found by a passer-by between 9th Street and Constantia Resort in Mookgophong.
“Heavy, bloodied stones were found next to their bodies which were all tied with shoelaces and covered by tree branches. Investigations revealed that Johanna was raped before she was killed,” he said.
The Kekanas were reported missing after they failed to return to the Montadi Youth Care Centre where they lived following social workers’ recommendations.
Commending the police for their work, MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison in Limpopo Fulufhelo Radzilani said “we promised the community of Mookgopong that we will leave no stone unturned in finding the perpetrators and today we are happy that justice will prevail”.
