St Francis Bay fires: residents evacuated

Residents were evacuated in St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape after a fire broke out in the area.

SABC radio reported that the blaze was spreading rapidly this afternoon amid strong south westerly winds.

Many houses in the area have thatched roofs.

The town was filled to the brim with holiday-makers who traditionally visit the area for Christmas holidays.

Last month, 76 homes were destroyed by a blaze in the same area.
