The people who hold the power: Collen Sedibe
Sedibe (41) wants to go to Mangaung by bus so he has a last chance to woo other Mpumalanga delegates over to his branch’s way of thinking.
“I won’t relax. I’ll lobby in the bus,” says Sedibe, the branch chairperson of Ward 30 in White River. This is ANC treasurer-general Mathews Phosa’s branch.
Sedibe’s branch has resolved to elect Kgalema Motlanthe as ANC president and Phosa as his deputy.
The single father of two has been an ANC member since he was 16.
“At that time the country was under apartheid and the ANC was the only organisation that could liberate South Africa. I’ve been jailed for political activism and I’m going to die being an ANC member.”
