Dlamini-Zuma most popular ANC NEC leader
AU commission chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is the most popular ANC leader outside of the party’s top six officials.
She topped the list of the party’s 80-strong additional members of the national executive committee.
Most of the top leaders in the list are known loyalists of President Jacob Zuma while detractors like Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula, former party treasurer general Mathews Phosa, Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale and Arts Minister Paul Mashatile didn’t make the cut.
Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba was in second place, followed by Public Administration Minister Lindiwe Sisulu, Monitoring Minister Collins Chabane, Justice Minister Jeff Radebe, Home Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor, Science Minister Derek Hanekom, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, a new addition together with former Reserve Bank governor Tito Mboweni.
ANC Youth League expelled treasurer Pule Mabe, a Zuma supporter, was the only member of the league’s former top five who made the cut.
Zuma’s former spokesperson, who was a former spokesman of the league, Zizi Kodwa, is another new addition to the party’s NEC.
ANC Women’s League president and Education Minister Angie Motshekga as well as women’s league secretary-general Sisisi Tolashe are also on the NEC.
