Inequality between black and white households bad for reconciliation – Zuma

The inequality between black and white households is “bad for reconciliation”, says President Jacob Zuma.

Zuma yesterday addressed the closing ceremony of the ANC’s centenary celebrations in Durban.

There, he said: “The situation that white households have six times the wealth of black households should be a thing of the past.”

Zuma referred to the 2011 census, which revealed that the income of the average white household remained six times higher than that of the average black household.

“It is bad for reconciliation and nation building and all of us, black and white, must work to reduce and ultimately eradicate such a massive gap in the second phase of our country’s revolution.”

Referring to the ANC’s history, he paid tribute to those who had contributed to the organisation’s successes.

He also urged unity within the organisation, saying this was good for the party as well as the country.

The president must stop playing te black and white card. Mbeki tried the same before he was kicked out. The black people have BEE which whites don’t have. Some people use their opportunities, others don’t. He did not metioned the family size, which is in his case 24 children and 6 wives, where the average white home does no go over 4 members. No wonder the Prez needs extra helpling hands to feed his family.

How about mentioning that 90% of black households own their properties, without financial bonds on the house, where as only 20% whites own their houses.
How about mentioning that when you start with children during your high school years, for a grant, your are doomed for poverty for at least 20 years of your life.
How about explaining that if a household buy a cake and needs to share it with 28 members, ( as in his case) he might need to buy a few more cakes, where as when you have 4 members in the household, you can have joys of 3 days or longer with one cake.
How about explaining than when saving your money, you might have a nest egg for tomorrow.

How rich is this coming from the same unscrupulous “leadder” with his own “palace of Puckingham” in Nkandla very few rich white and black people could afford and better than properties belonging to other “black leathers” from African poor countries…..

Yes Mr Zuma. I too am concerned, as are many of my white business partners and colleagues.

As a contributor to the economy, I find it hard to accept that us whites who represent little more
than 9% of the population are carrying more than 70% of the load of running this economy.
Even my 80 year old mother is making a contribution through her landscaping business.
While the majority black youth sit on their backsides doing nothing.
Where are the black business owners?
Where are the young black start ups?
Where are the black entrepreneurs?

All we hear and see are people making demands. People who have never made any kind of contribution of any sort.

You and your tin pot ANC government have failed to lead your people, you have failed
to inspire an idle nation into productive fruitful action.

It is quite distrubing that the president of a so-called rainbow nation is such a racist. He is constantly playing the race card. We will never have reconcilliation in this country as long as we have people like him around. The President, the ANC and all South Africans should remember the liberation struggle was supposed to be about bringing freedom and liberation to ALL South Africans. It was never a race war so why turn it into a race war now?

Zuma continually plays the race card and makes divisive statements. I know many non white people who have more than me, it’s through the growth of their own businesses in some cases. I have my own business and I struggle some months, but I don’t sit on my butt and expect hand outs like some of the youth I have seen. I only have as many children or pets as I can afford, too. Nkandla is a lot bigger than our house. #justsaying.

Personally, I think the inequality between say, President Zuma, Members of the Government, Government Officials – as compared to the vast masses of people, is even worse for reconciliation. How can people look at Nkandla and not think that it is unfair that so much taxpayer money is being spent on ONE MAN’s household, whilst millions languish in poverty, without light, water, toilets, etc. It’s not much consolation to know that the president weeps at night when thinking of the people’s poverty and hunger … or so he says.

I think the Prez really shouldn’t be allowed to speak off the cuff; his minders should be much much stricter with him. And the voters should be super-strict, and reserve their 2014 votes for an honest candidate.

If this is our presidents rhetoric and a similar status was prevalent during apartheid then surely logic dictates that the ANC if anything are themselves are simply carrying on the legacy and practices of apartheid, with some fancy window dressing, like our constitution, no?

When coupled with the census statistics that the richest blacks in our country are members of government then the only difference between the Previous and Present government is the colour of their skin. The results paint a damning picture which I am sad as a non-black to be part of.

Maybe one day, when government doesn’t go out of their way to ruin our education system and people’s intellect and consciousness are awakened, we’ll be reading in our history books about the evils of this current regime alongside those of Aparthied.

For once I agree with you Mr. President. Whats the use of any freedom if one has no economic means and support? Us blacks run around shouting we have political power and the country is now ours whilst most whites just sit back and watch the circus whilst enjoying all the economic power and wealth of this land of ours. The average age of whites 47 years, the average age of blacks 19 years. If you are 47 years old you ought to have earned more than at 19, whether you are green, pink or yellow. You get that mr Zuma?
