Lamola ‘removal’ a rumour – Youth League
The ANC Youth League has denied reports that its deputy president Ronald Lamola will be removed from his position after a disagreement with its expelled president Julius Malema.
“We dismiss this rumour with the contempt it deserves and we are well aware that such malicious gossip is spread by those who want to drive a wedge and create division amongst structures of the ANCYL,” it said in a statement.
The Youth League had been inundated with media enquiries about Lamola.
The Independent Online reported on national executive committee member Abner Mosase as acting president.
Unnamed sources told the Independent Online that Lamola had recently attended an ANC national executive committee lekgotla in his capacity as acting president, despite an agreement that he would not act in Malema’s former position.
The Youth League denied that it had postponed a press briefing on Monday, following its weekend national executive committee meeting, because of internal disputes over leadership.
“The national executive committee of the ANCYL has recently concluded a successful meeting and the outcomes of such meeting will be communicated at a press briefing,” it said.
The briefing was to be held at the ANC’s Luthuli House headquarters in Johannesburg on Monday afternoon.
