The Polokwane Magistrates’ Court has withdrawn crimen injuria charges against Julius Malema’s former friend, Boy Mamabolo.
Malema pressed charges against Mamabolo last week after his former friend – now a sworn enemy – allegedly threatened to exhume his mother’s remains and throw them in front of his grandmother’s house in Seshego, outside Polokwane.
Mamabolo reportedly threatened Malema after he (Malema) had sent his friends to sleep with Mamabolo’s girlfriend.
Mamabolo’s lawyer, Pholoto Seopela, said “the senior prosecutor decided that there was no sufficient evidence to enable prosecution.
“Maybe at a later stage they will be able to gather enough evidence. What is in the docket is not enough for trial to take place.”
An SMS doing the rounds in Polokwane, allegedly written by Mamabolo to Malema reads: “This time I want to show you that I am more brutal and (I will) exhume Mahlodi (Malema’s late mother) from the grave and lay her in front of (your grandmother’s house). You have done many bad things to me.”
Mamabolo said the likelihood was that the case would never return to court. “We are smart enough to see that there is no case here. What exactly will they try me for?” he said, declining to comment further.
