Mandela misinformation a learning curve – Mac
Presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj has described the Presidency’s failure to inform the media that former president Nelson Mandela was not being treated at 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria “a learning curve”.
It was widely reported, until yesterday, that Mandela was being treated at this hospital, based on an earlier media interview with Minister of Defence Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.
Eyewitness News yesterday established that Mandela was in fact not being treated at this hospital.
It reported that there were plans to move Mandela to his Houghton home in the near future.
Asked about the apparent lie and the Presidency’s failure to correct the information, Maharaj said in an interview with Talk Radio 702’s John Robbie this morning that it had been a learning curve for government and the media.
He reiterated that the Presidency had never disclosed the name of the hospital in which Madiba was being treated for the sake of his privacy.
