Talking Point: Is FNB campaign treason?

The ANC has slammed the FNB “You can help” brand campaign, saying it was an attack on government.

“This isn’t an advert – it’s a political statement. An attack on the president, his ministers and government as a whole,” ANC spokesperson Keith Khoza told the Mail & Guardian.

The ANC Youth League, in a statement described it as treason.

But FNB says the campaign is a reminder to South Africans “not to be distracted by the little things” – “that the power exists in everyone to extend help to take people from a place of can’t to can”.

What FNB is doing is far from treason, it is common sense. Treason against the nation is when politicians tasked with creating a country where everybody shares in a good life get their snouts in the trough and pillage the treasury living like kings, spending public money on Huge personal projects, (Nkandla for one) and lie and cheat to thieir hearts content, neglecting the basic needs of the people that voted them into power. The youth league lacks even a basic understanding of economic forces and will end up helping julius pick tomatoes.

I thought we lived in a democracy governed by a Constitution premised on basic rights such as the right to freely express political opinion and thought, equality and the rule of law? Clearly the ANC does not live in the same country as me.

Prior to the US elections, a number business people openly campaigned against Obama. Was that treason? Are their businesses being threatened with closure and their licences revoked? Are their CEO’s threatened? No.

What is scary about this reaction is that it shows the ANC’s true despotic and fascist colours. We need to also be afraid that when the ANC does lose a national election or even a more provinces such as Gauteng (2014?) and the EC (2014), it is increasingly unlikely that they will not hand over these cash cows and cadre employers freely.

The message of this precious child speaks from the core of democracy. The ANC by its slam (sic) against FNB clearly demonstrates to the entire world that it is not wanting democracy rather the continuation of it own corruption be it moral, financial, educational or general disregard for human decency. Those of us from other free world countries, who take time to notice and care, can see this clearly. Why can’t the majority of SA citizens see the same? How much longer will the ANC lead SA down this dead-end road until there is once again need for revolution; if indeed that time has not yet come? But who is left in SA to fight the evil that is the ANC? Will the nations of the free world once again take notice of SA or will they all say “SA we gave you a chance and you have proven yourself unfit and unworthy to be counted as one of us.”

They say its treason fair enough… Treason against who? The ANC is a political party what are they doing meddling in matters of National Security, the South African government decides who comits treason not the political party who won the elections. I think they are starting to blur the lines between leadership and control… this could be the beginning of something far worse than just meddling

FNB should be focusing on mending its racist way as per exposed on a shing report, dated 19 Nov 2012 marked ‘final draft’ by Munro Consulting Actuaries that, even after loan size, product type, loan amount and surbub are taken into account as possible determinants of the interest rate charged, the bank’s black clients were and are consistently charged higher rates than the bank’s white clients.

  Considering that the majority of SA is black, it is no surprise that the majority of loans at risk, (charged a higher rate) will be for black applicants. You can not BEE yourself above the laws of mathematics.

    A loan risk should only be calculated against issues of affordibilty and credit rating.

      Tyron – What I am describing is a perfect example of what is called “Conditional Probability”. You may remember the term from your Statistic class (?). The standard lesson usually goes like this: You draw blindfolded from a bag of marbles, 5 marbles are black 2 are white. What are your odds of drawing a black marble? That can be put into a formula but I can’t type it out in this medium. But I’m sure you know the example I am talking about. You can reverse the color of the marbles and the odds will change – because the math remains the same. Mathematics is “color blind”.
      
      Put this example into practical use: What % of individuals in SA are married? Now ask what are their color? I bet you will find the majority of married individuals in SA are Black. Does that mean Whites and Asians do not marry as often? If one wanted to use the numbers they could suggest that. However you and I both know (I trust) that would not be valid. That is the point I am making here. The majority of loans given and those denied will be “black” simply because black is the majority population. If you disagree with the numbers, then you will have to investigate each and every denial along with each and ever award then tally the up and x-ref them against color. I guarantee you will find the math is always correct.

I would consider it treason for a person in a position of political power to take bribes or spend millions from state coffers in his own personal compound.
