Afcon: Cape Verde through to quarters
Goal of the match: Ramos Helden’s stoppage time cracker.
Save of the match: Angola’s clearance of two Cape Verde attempts off the line early in the second half.
Cape Verde upset the odds in Group A to make a quarterfinal qualification at their first attempt in the Africa Cup of Nations.
For at least until the closing 10 minutes it seemed as if Angola had gone through – especially after Morocco took the lead on two occasions at the match played in Durban at the same time.
But a stoppage time goal by Ramos Helden sealed a historic place in the quarterfinals for the men from the island of a population of half a million.
Defender Fernando Varela headed in the equaliser in the 81st minute before Helden netted nine minutes later.
Cape Verde advance as the runners-up of the group and will meet Group B winners, possibly Ghana, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.
