Cape Verde will be dangerous opponent – Ghana coach
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says Cape Verde has got nothing to lose and this will make them a dangerous opponent in the two sides’ Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal clash on Saturday.
“I would prefer to meet Ivory Coast (rather) than Cape Verde because they are not under pressure,” said the Black Stars’ coach at the team’s press conference today.
“Cape Verde is a physical side and they are tactically disciplined as well.”
The Blue Sharks are the surprise of the competition so far, having advanced to the last eight in a group that had hosts South Africa, Morocco and Angola in it.
They beat Angola 2-1 to finish second and set up a date with Ghana, who demolished Niger 3-0 in the final fixture of Group B.
The match on Saturday will be the second time that the Black Stars and the Blue Sharks square up.
Ghana beat them 1-0 during a friendly contest in Portugal in November last year.
Appiah said he does not read much into the results of friendly matches.
He said his side will go out and do their best to reach the semifinals.
The quarterfinal at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday kicks off at 5pm.
