Ignore critics and focus on positives, Zuma tells Bafana

President Jacob Zuma has assured Bafana Bafana that the country was behind them as they prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Zuma, who was speaking after a private meeting with the team at Orlando Stadium, Soweto, was welcomed by the players with Umshini Wam’.

He encouraged the team to do their best in the tournament, which kicks off on Saturday with South Africa taking on Cape Verde.

Zuma said he had no doubt that they would do the country proud. “I’ve seen the team in action and I’m confident they will do well. I’ve seen the commitment and attitude of the players and I’m happy,” said Zuma.

He said the team must ignore their critics and concentrate on the positives. “There’ll always be critics and some people are paid to do so but the whole country is behind you.”

He said the players should relax and play their normal game. “I want to touch the trophy and the only way to do so is when you have won.”

Jake Zee was almost correct – all the country would indeed love to be supporting Bufoona – but on current form , they cant punch their way out of a wet paper packet .

These lighties have to be made to understand that they represent the once Jewel of the African continent . Currently , Jake Zee does not have a speech writer and does the country monumental damage with frequent puerile statements .

Therefore , it is incumbent of Bufoona to contribute to reversing this status , by living out playing excellence each time they take the field and to inwardly digest that we play sport to win , not just to turn up .

Gordy was taught this at a very young age at Durban United – and has had similar successes at club level and Currie Cup for Natal , bacvk in the 70′s . He must infuse this same playing excellence , winning mentality and culture into every / all players representing this country on the soccer field . If they don’t inwardly embrace this and outwardly display this , they must not be selected .

Until this happens , these lighties will remain Bufoona and simply incapable of emulating the feared and champion Springbok Rugby and Cricket teams , who are consistently in the top 4 on the planet and not 84th like the Bufoona – Good luck Gordon – you have no idea how much good will , will reverberate around this fast sinking ship of state under Jake zee , if your boys start winning , and winning consistently .

Nil Nil draws are not achievements and more like kissing your sister . Winning at 90% of all games , is thus the short term goal .
