It’s Khoza vs Sam for Sascoc presidency
Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairperson Irvin Khoza will challenge Gideon Sam for the presidency of the SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc), City Press can reveal.
A highly placed source has disclosed that Khoza, who is also the Orlando Pirates boss, has also been nominated for the position of vice-president, which is being contested by eight other candidates.
Another high-profile football administrator, Safa president Kirsten Nematandani, has also been drafted onto the list.
Other contestants for the deputy post include incumbents Hajera Kajee and Les Williams, as well as swimming president Jace Naidoo.
Only two people are eligible for election.
Today Sascoc is expected to release the names of the nominees ahead of its elective conference on November 24.
The positions being contested are that of president, two vice-presidents, and five board members.
“I can confirm that Khoza has been nominated twice – for the presidency and for vice-president. The list was checked by the auditors and the candidates were ratified,” said the source.
Sascoc chief executive Tubby Reddy was reluctant to reveal the names, but said the list was going to be made public today.
