Ngcongca out, Majoro back
While Bafana Bafana will be without their reliable right back Anele Ngcongca for Saturday’s quarterfinal clash against Mali, they will welcome back striker Lehlohonolo Majoro to the team.
Ngcongca is suspended for the game after picking up his second yellow in the 2-all draw against Morocco on Sunday, which Majoro missed through injury.
But coach Gordon Igesund said he had good replacement with Siboniso Gaxa ready to fill the space.
He said Gaxa was probably the best player to play against the West Africans.
“Even if Anele was available I was probably still going to go for Pa because he is more attacking and this is what we need against Mali. Anyway there are no guarantees in the team and Pa will get his opportunity,” said Igesund.
He said Majoro started with light training without the ball and would continue doing so even again tomorrow.
The Kaizer Chiefs striker is expected to remove the stitches on his shin after he was stretchered off the field in the game against Angola after clashing with the goalkeeper.
“He will just jog and on Thursday he will train with the rest of the team. He should be ready for the game on Saturday.”
After conceding two goals against Morocco, Igesund is likely to solidify his midfield against Mali by recalling Kagisho Dikgacoi to the starting line up in order to contain the West Africans’ dominance in the middle of the park.
He conceded his team gave Morocco too much space to manoeuvre on Sunday, and said it would be risky to do the same against Mali.
“We must get it right this time and cut their supply from the middle. Our defense has not been great or bad just steady but we have to be at our best on Saturday,” said Igesund
