Proteas on the verge of something special – Smith
Proteas captain Graeme Smith believes the Proteas are on the verge of “something special”.
Speaking after the Proteas’ victory in the Test against New Zealand today, Smith said: “Our strength is our unity and how we get on and how we play for each other is a crucial aspect in our success. I don’t want to be comparing teams to other teams because in their own rights, teams have been successful in our history since readmission and I think this team has a wonderful opportunity to create something special and be part of something special.
“Everything is a stepping stone to the next thing and we had to build and go through phases to get to where we are now. It’s great to have the quality of personnel that we have now. You can’t be good team unless you have the players,” he added.
Smith said it was exciting to be back home after a year on the road and to play well in Port Elizabeth where the team has not had “that much success”.
“We move onto Pakistan who are going to offer new challenges and which could potentially be a tough series. It was nice for us to keep the standard high,” he said.
