Safa bosses divided over report

The South African Football Association (Safa) leadership is divided following an explosive Fifa report which implicates Safa staff in fixing four of Bafana Bafana’s warm-up matches before the 2010 World Cup.

On Monday, Safa announced they had put president Kirsten Nematandani and four staff members, Dennis Mumble, Adeel Carelse, Lindile Ace Kika and Barney Kujane, on special leave pending an investigation into the matter as their names appeared in the report.

But members of the national executive committee of Safa are up in arms about the decision to suspend the president and other staff members.

City Press is in possession of e-mails exchanges between members, who are not happy with the decision. They wanted to hold a special executive meeting this week to discuss the latest developments but acting president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana refused to call the meeting.

City Press is also in possession of the Fifa report, which alleges that the five matches against Thailand, Bulgaria, Colombia, Guatemala and Denmark were fixed by a company, Football4U, which had entered into an agreement with Safa to provide match officials for these matches.

The report says by entering into an agreement with Football4U Safa was in breach of Fifa Statutes.
